Northstar club management software alternatives (2026)

See Club Steward, Ardn's platform

Quick answer

For a private club that wants a comparable all-in-one suite with native accounting, the closest Northstar alternatives are Clubessential and Jonas Club Software. Golf-operations-led courses usually compare Club Caddie, foreUP and Lightspeed Golf, built around the tee sheet and POS. Club Steward, Ardn's own platform, fits multi-club golf operators that want membership sales, e-signed agreements and benefits that follow the member across clubs.

Who each Northstar alternative fits

Northstar Club Management Software describes itself as "Powering Clubs, End-to-End" and as all-in-one club management software "Built for Golf & Country Clubs, City Clubs, HOAs, and Yacht Clubs". Founded in 2001, it is a fully cloud-based, single-database platform covering membership with a built-in CRM, golf, food and beverage, retail, accounting, marina, POA/HOA, security, hotel and spa functions, a member website and the ClubNow member app. Per globalnorthstar.com, checked 22 October 2026, it serves "over 1,500 clubs worldwide".

Because Northstar already covers so much, clubs that search for Northstar alternatives are rarely looking for a smaller product. They are usually one of three kinds: a multi-club golf operator that wants membership sales, e-signed agreements and benefits that follow the member across clubs; a golf-operations-led facility that wants a tee-sheet-and-POS-first platform; or a club comparing at renewal that wants to see other suites side by side with sourced facts. This page compares seven platforms on exactly those points, with every fact linked to the vendor's own site.

How this page was researched. Every vendor fact was read from that vendor's own website in October 2026 and is linked in a Source note. Where a vendor's pages don't say something, we say so rather than guess. Club Steward is Ardn's own platform, so it is labelled as ours wherever it appears. No ratings or review counts are quoted.

Northstar at a glance: the baseline

Before comparing alternatives, here is what Northstar says about itself on its own website. These are the capabilities an alternative has to match or deliberately trade away.

  • Who it is for: "Built for Golf & Country Clubs, City Clubs, HOAs, and Yacht Clubs." The homepage says Northstar was "Founded in 2001" and is "Serving over 1,500 clubs worldwide"; the FAQ says "trusted by more than 1,000 clubs worldwide" and the club-software page says "1,000+ clubs".
  • Modules, per the FAQ: "Management Dashboards, Reporting, Membership, Reservations, Accounting, Food & Beverage (F&B), Retail, Golf, Spa, Marina, POA/HOA, Security, Hotel, Happometer (experience tracking), and NS Connect (member website and app)", all connected through "a single real-time database". The homepage describes a "Nexus" solution that "connects your Back Office, Employee App, Member Website, and Member App into one intuitive platform".
  • Membership and CRM: the membership page describes a Relationship CRM to "Organize prospect and customer details in one place", with "One-click sync with Membership Roster, no re-entry", "Lead tracking and pipeline visibility", activity-based email automation and a Campaigns module. The FAQ adds email, SMS and push campaigns segmented by interests, demographics, spend and activity.
  • Golf: a "web-based tee sheet" with rules and rates, shotguns and crossovers, lotteries ("Random or weighted"), a web-based tournament manager, lesson and practice-bay reservations, and support for "both single and multi-course operations with centralized control".
  • Accounting: accounts receivable with "split receivables and profile-based charges", member minimums and finance charges, and "Credit Card and ACH" payments; accounts payable with "Built-in bank reconciliation tools" and reciprocal payments charged to member accounts; a general ledger with budgeting; a Financial Report Designer with an "Excel-like" interface; timekeeping; and a "multi-company option".
  • Analytics: NS Analytics "harnesses the power of Power BI to deliver real-time dashboards", including revenue across locations and access to "the entire Club Roster – including Prospective Members".
  • Website: NS Connect member websites in Signature Designs or through a Custom Design Agency, "Fully integrated with Back Office and the ClubNow Member App".
  • Hosting, support and data: "Northstar is a fully cloud-based platform with automatic updates, remote access and scalability"; "24/7 production support is available" with response targets of 1 hour (P1), 4 hours (P2) and 1 business day (P3); "The club retains full ownership" of its data; "A robust API is available for custom integrations".
  • Pricing: "Pricing depends on module selection, club size and operational needs. Northstar offers flexible modular pricing." No prices are published.

Why clubs look at Northstar alternatives

Northstar is a broad, established suite, and most clubs that evaluate alternatives are not unhappy with it so much as checking a specific requirement. The reasons we hear most often:

  • Membership sales with e-signed agreements: Northstar's membership page describes a CRM with lead tracking, pipeline visibility and a one-click sync to the membership roster. E-signature of membership agreements is not described on the Northstar FAQ, membership or accounting pages we reviewed. Clubs that sell memberships online often want the contract signed before payment, inside the same system, without a separate e-signature tool.
  • Benefits and reciprocal access across a portfolio: Northstar states that it supports "multi-club, multi-course, and multi-property organizations, providing centralized control", and its accounts payable handles reciprocal payments charged to member accounts. Operators with several golf clubs often also want to see quantified benefits (rounds, guest passes, dining discounts) drawn down automatically across clubs, and reports scoped by region, demonstrated on their own data.
  • Golf-operations-first platforms: Public, semi-private and resort courses often shortlist platforms built around the tee sheet and POS (Club Caddie, foreUP, Lightspeed Golf) rather than a private-club suite with marina, POA/HOA and hotel modules they will not use.
  • Published terms and contract length: Northstar does not publish prices; it describes modular pricing by module, club size and needs. Some alternatives state their contract terms on their own sites (Lightspeed Golf: no long-term contract; Club Automation: most plans are 12-month or multi-year), which helps clubs comparing at renewal.
  • Support and operating model: Northstar publishes 24/7 production support with a 1-hour P1 response target, which is a strong baseline. Some clubs instead want a vendor that runs the whole platform for them as a managed service, which is how Ardn runs Club Steward, with a US-based team and a 4-hour response SLA.

Each Northstar alternative in detail

1. Club Steward by ArdnArdn's own platform

Ardn's own platform for multi-club golf and country club operators.

  • Core modules are Membership Sales (shared lead pool with SLA escalation, pipeline by stage, tour board, e-signed contracts) and the Members App (a per-club installable app in the club's own brand, with a member card ready for Apple and Google Wallet).
  • Add-on modules: Website & Marketing, HR, Tee-Times, Events & Catering, Point of Sale, e-Commerce, Subscription Billing & Dues, Member Service with Chatbot and an Accounting Suite. Property Management is listed as coming soon.
  • Every club gets its own branded website with live prices from the back office and a six-step online join: plan, household, dues and add-ons, sign, autopay, pay. A waitlist replaces Join when a plan reaches its cap.
  • Benefits are quantified (rounds, guest passes, dining discounts, room hours), reset monthly, yearly or on the anniversary, can be capped per club or per network of clubs, and booking a tee time draws down the allowance the member saw while booking.
  • Dues run on autopay by card or US bank account (ACH), with a prorated first period, failed-payment retries that never charge twice, statements with finance charges and food and beverage minimums.
  • Club-level isolation is enforced in the database with row-level security on every table, with more than 550 permissions granted per role and per club, field history, an audit log and a 30-day recycle bin.

Switching from Northstar: what to plan for

Northstar's own FAQ describes what a migration onto Northstar involves: discovery and planning, data extraction and cleansing, system configuration, migration and mapping, staff training and go-live support, with an optional parallel run "to validate workflows and data accuracy before fully switching". The same steps apply in reverse when a club moves away from any suite, so they are a fair checklist for evaluating any alternative on this page.

Northstar also says that "The club retains full ownership" of its data and that a "robust API is available for custom integrations". Before you start an evaluation, confirm with Northstar how your data will be exported and in what format, because the export determines how much of your history moves with you.

  • Member data: Northstar lists member profiles, membership categories, financial balances, tee time history, POS items and selected historical transactions as data that can be migrated onto Northstar. Ask each alternative which of those it imports, and how.
  • Module coverage: list every Northstar module you use today (for example Marina, POA/HOA, Spa, Hotel or Security), then ask each alternative to show how it covers each one, natively or through an integration. Club Steward can add lodging, spa, marina and door access for clubs that need them; property management is listed as coming soon.
  • Accounting: decide whether you want native club accounting (Northstar, Clubessential, Jonas and Club Steward describe a general ledger) or a golf platform that syncs to QuickBooks, Xero, Sage or similar (Club Caddie, foreUP).
  • Parallel running: ask whether the alternative supports running one club live while the rest stay on Northstar. Club Steward turns modules on per club, so one club can go live while the rest of a portfolio carries on as it is today.
  • Websites and search rankings: if Northstar hosts your NS Connect member website, plan redirects from old addresses. Club Steward sets up permanent redirects from each club's old web addresses so existing rankings carry over.

How to run a fair Northstar alternatives evaluation

Shortlist three platforms, including Northstar itself if you are at renewal, and ask each vendor to demonstrate the same scenarios on your data rather than a scripted demo. A useful set for a golf or country club: a prospect who joins from the website through a signed agreement and first payment; a member who books a tee time at a second club and uses an included benefit; a food-and-beverage charge that lands on the member's statement and in the general ledger; and a month-end portfolio report with region subtotals.

Ask for a written quote by module and by club, including implementation, data migration, payment processing, support level and contract length. None of the seven platforms on this page publishes full club-management pricing, so written quotes on the same scope are the only way to compare like for like.

Northstar alternatives: frequently asked questions

What are the best Northstar club management software alternatives?

For a private club that wants a comparable all-in-one suite with native accounting, the closest alternatives on this page are Clubessential and Jonas Club Software. Club Steward by Ardn (our own platform) is built around a multi-club portfolio with membership sales, e-signed contracts and one member record across clubs. Club Caddie, foreUP and Lightspeed Golf are golf-operations platforms (tee sheet, POS, F&B) with accounting through integrations. Club Automation by Daxko is for fitness, racquet and multi-purpose clubs rather than golf.

Does Northstar support multi-club and multi-course operations?

Yes, per its own FAQ: "Northstar's cloud-based platform supports multi-club, multi-course, and multi-property organizations, providing centralized control and consistent operations across locations." Its golf module supports "both single and multi-course operations with centralized control", and its accounting has a multi-company option. Among the alternatives, Club Caddie, Lightspeed Golf, foreUP, Club Automation and Club Steward also state multi-site support on their own sites.

Which Northstar alternatives include e-signature for membership agreements?

On the pages we reviewed: Club Steward by Ardn includes e-signed contracts inside the online join and the in-person tablet checkout, with payment blocked until the agreement is signed. Club Automation describes digital contracts and waivers linked to the member's profile. Club Caddie offers a digital cart waiver on the Starter Sheet, and Lightspeed Golf offers waivers through the third-party eGolf Waiver integration. Clubessential, Jonas and foreUP pages we reviewed do not describe membership e-signature, and neither do the Northstar pages we reviewed.

How much does Northstar cost compared with the alternatives?

Northstar does not publish prices: its FAQ says "Pricing depends on module selection, club size and operational needs" and describes flexible modular pricing. None of the seven alternatives publishes full club-management pricing either. Lightspeed Golf publishes its terms (no long-term contract, pay-as-you-go, quote-based), Club Automation says most plans are 12-month or multi-year agreements, and Club Caddie describes a monthly fee. Ardn does not publish Club Steward pricing; ask for a quote by module and by club.

Can a club move off Northstar without losing its data?

Northstar's FAQ states that "The club retains full ownership" of its data and that an API is available for custom integrations. Ask Northstar how an export is delivered before you sign with anyone else, then ask each alternative what it imports. Club Steward invites clubs to bring an export of current members and plans to the walkthrough to see how it maps, club by club, and every Club Steward report and list exports to CSV.

Is Club Steward a neutral entry on this page?

No. Club Steward is Ardn's own golf and country club platform, and it is labelled as ours wherever it appears. Its facts come from the Club Steward product and features pages, and every competitor fact comes from that competitor's own website, linked in a Source note.
