Cobalt club software alternatives (2026): private club platforms compared

See Club Steward, Ardn's platform

Quick answer

For a private or country club that wants another all-in-one suite with native accounting, the closest Cobalt alternatives are Clubspot, Northstar, Jonas Club Software and Clubessential. Golf-operations-led courses usually compare Club Caddie, Lightspeed Golf and foreUP. Club Steward, Ardn's own platform, fits multi-club operators that want membership sales, e-signed contracts and one member record across clubs.

Who each Cobalt alternative fits

Cobalt Software describes itself as "Club Management Software for Country Clubs & Private Clubs": "a fully comprehensive, cloud-based club management solution built from the ground up to be mobile-native and unified by design". Per mycobaltsoftware.com, checked November 4, 2026, it has been "working with private clubs since 2016", is based in Boca Raton, FL, and groups its products as Cobalt CORE, Cobalt ENGAGE and Cobalt GATHER.

Because Cobalt already covers accounting, membership, POS, golf, dining, payroll, HR and a member app, clubs that search for Cobalt club software alternatives are usually checking one specific requirement rather than replacing everything. The three most common: a club that wants a second modern cloud suite or a longer-established one to compare against; a golf-operations-led course that wants a platform built around the tee sheet and POS; and a multi-club operator that wants membership sales, e-signed agreements and one member record across clubs. This page compares eight platforms on exactly those points, with every fact linked to the vendor's own site.

How this page was researched. Every vendor fact was read from that vendor's own website in October 2026 and is linked in a Source note. Where a vendor's pages don't say something, we say so rather than guess. Club Steward is Ardn's own platform, so it is labelled as ours wherever it appears. No ratings or review counts are quoted.

Cobalt at a glance: the baseline

Before comparing alternatives, here is what Cobalt says about itself on its own website, in its own words. These are the capabilities an alternative has to match or deliberately trade away.

  • Who it is for: "Club Management Software for Country Clubs & Private Clubs". The About page says "We have been working with private clubs since 2016" and that the team has "3 decades of experience building enterprise class solutions".
  • Design: "Unlike systems assembled through acquisitions or add-ons, Cobalt was designed as one system", built "on a single, modern technology stack" with a "mobile-native, web-based interface".
  • Products: Cobalt CORE (accounting, membership, F&B POS and table management, retail POS and inventory, club analytics, service requests, payroll, and HR & recruiting), Cobalt ENGAGE (club website, member portal and member app) and Cobalt GATHER (member app and online booking with back-of-house amenity management).
  • Accounting: accounts payable with invoice batches posted to the GL, batch check printing and "Yearly 1099 Prints"; accounts receivable with monthly statements and "Delinquent and suspended letters generated for members based on your club's rules"; a general ledger with recurring journal entries and budgets compared against actuals. POS transactions are "recorded automatically to Accounts Receivable".
  • Membership and CRM: a member database with property records, automated monthly statements, renewals, "property sales and leasing transactions", electronic gift certificates, and a built-in CRM to "track prospects, manage the membership pipeline, and streamline outreach".
  • Golf: a tee time system that can "Manage multiple courses", a lottery with "Flexible weighting functionality", lesson, range and simulator booking, a digital starter sheet and bag room sheet on tablets, a tablet POS tied to check-in that fills in greens, cart and guest fees, and integrations with Golf Genius and Tag Marshal.
  • Payments and app: members pay by ACH or credit card in the member app and portal, and "Cobalt Software is an Elavon Payments Partner and Registered Partner/ISO of Elavon, Inc. Georgia." The app runs on iOS and Android, supports a digital member ID in Apple Wallet, and can enable "e-signature and contactless POS checkout".
  • Support and pricing: "Our US-based support team combined with our in-house team of global experts provide support to our clients 24/7." No prices are published; the site's calls to action are Request a Demo and Book A Demo.

Why clubs look at Cobalt alternatives

Cobalt is a broad private-club suite, and most clubs that evaluate alternatives are checking a specific requirement rather than looking for something smaller. The reasons that come up most often:

  • Published pricing to compare against: Cobalt does not publish prices. Clubs that want at least one published reference point often add Clubspot, whose pricing page lists payment rates and pay-as-you-go platform fees, or Lightspeed Golf, which publishes its terms (quote-based, no long-term contract). Written quotes on the same scope are still the only fair comparison.
  • Several clubs under one operator: Cobalt's tee sheet can manage multiple courses, and its retail POS can manage multiple retail locations from one workstation. Management of several clubs as one portfolio, with reports by region, is not described on the pages we reviewed. Operators with several clubs usually compare Northstar (multi-club, multi-course and multi-property) and Club Steward (one member record across every club, reports scoped by region).
  • Membership agreements signed inside the join: Cobalt's member app can enable e-signature, and its built-in CRM tracks prospects through the membership pipeline. E-signature of a membership agreement inside an online join, with payment held until it is signed, is not stated on the Cobalt pages we reviewed. Clubs that sell memberships online often want the contract signed before the first payment, in the same system.
  • A golf-operations-first platform: Cobalt's golf tools are built for private clubs, with a lottery, starters, bag room and member booking. Public, semi-private and resort courses whose revenue is mostly rounds often compare platforms built around the tee sheet and POS, such as Club Caddie, Lightspeed Golf and foreUP.
  • A second opinion at renewal: Clubs reviewing any core system at renewal usually want quotes from two or three vendors on the same scope. Cobalt's closest peers as all-in-one private-club suites with native accounting are Clubspot, Northstar, Jonas Club Software and Clubessential.

Each Cobalt alternative in detail

1. Club Steward by ArdnArdn's own platform

Ardn's own platform for multi-club golf and country club operators.

  • Core modules are Membership Sales (shared lead pool with SLA escalation, pipeline by stage, tour board, e-signed contracts) and the Members App (a per-club installable app in the club's own brand, with a member card ready for Apple and Google Wallet).
  • Add-on modules: Website & Marketing, HR, Tee-Times, Events & Catering, Point of Sale, e-Commerce, Subscription Billing & Dues, Member Service with Chatbot and an Accounting Suite. Property Management is listed as coming soon.
  • Every club gets its own branded website with live prices from the back office and a six-step online join: plan, household, dues and add-ons, sign, autopay, pay. A waitlist replaces Join when a plan reaches its cap.
  • Benefits are quantified (rounds, guest passes, dining discounts, room hours), reset monthly, yearly or on the anniversary, can be capped per club or per network of clubs, and booking a tee time draws down the allowance the member saw while booking.
  • Dues run on autopay by card or US bank account (ACH), with a prorated first period, failed-payment retries that never charge twice, statements with finance charges and food and beverage minimums.
  • Club-level isolation is enforced in the database with row-level security on every table, with more than 550 permissions granted per role and per club, field history, an audit log and a 30-day recycle bin.

Cobalt's own pages describe one cloud suite for a private or country club: native accounting with payables, receivables and a general ledger, membership and CRM, F&B and retail POS, a golf tee sheet with a lottery, payroll and HR, and a member app. That is a strong fit for a single private club that wants every department, including payroll, in one system from one vendor.

Club Steward starts from the member and the portfolio. Its product pages describe a membership sales desk (a shared lead pool with SLA escalation, a pipeline by stage and a tour board), a six-step online join from each club's own website (plan, household, dues and add-ons, sign, autopay, pay), contracts with built-in e-signature where payment is blocked until the agreement is signed, and one member record across every club, with reports scoped automatically for corporate, regional VPs and GMs.

  • Membership sales: Cobalt describes a built-in CRM to track prospects and manage the membership pipeline. Club Steward describes a shared lead pool with SLA escalation, a pipeline by stage, a tour board and e-signed contracts.
  • Contracts: Cobalt's member app can enable e-signature. Club Steward builds versioned contract templates and e-signature into the online join and the in-person tablet checkout, with payment blocked until signed.
  • Golf: Cobalt describes a lottery with flexible weighting, starters, bag room and Golf Genius and Tag Marshal integrations. Club Steward describes rate grids, booking windows by tier, a waitlist, standing tee times, a weekend lottery, and starter, ranger and bag-room screens with pace of play.
  • Multi-club: Cobalt describes multiple courses and multiple retail locations. Club Steward keeps one member record across every club, enforces benefits and reciprocal access across clubs, and scopes reports for corporate, regional VPs and GMs.
  • Operating model: Cobalt describes 24/7 support from a US-based team and in-house global experts. Club Steward is run for you by Ardn as a managed service, with a US-based team and a 4-hour response SLA.

Switching from Cobalt: what to plan for

Most of the work in any club software move is not the software. It is getting member and balance data out cleanly, rebuilding billing and booking rules, and retraining staff before a busy season. The checklist below applies to every alternative on this page.

Start by asking Cobalt how an export of your member and property records, open balances, gift certificate balances, vendor and general ledger history, and payroll records is delivered, and in what format. Then ask each alternative what it imports, and which history it keeps as reportable data rather than as an attachment.

  • Payroll and HR: Cobalt includes payroll and HR & recruiting. If an alternative does not, plan the payroll provider move separately and time it to a quarter end.
  • Card and ACH tokens: Cobalt processes payments as an Elavon partner. Ask both sides whether stored tokens can move to the new processor or whether members must re-enter payment details.
  • Accounting: plan the general ledger cut-over at a period end, and carry 1099 vendor history for the current year.
  • Golf integrations: if you use Golf Genius or Tag Marshal with Cobalt, confirm the alternative supports them before you sign.
  • Websites and apps: if Cobalt ENGAGE hosts your website and app, plan permanent redirects from the old addresses and tell members when to install the new app. Club Steward sets up permanent redirects from each club's old web addresses so existing rankings carry over.

How to run a fair Cobalt alternatives evaluation

Shortlist three platforms, including Cobalt itself if you are at renewal, and ask each vendor to demonstrate the same scenarios on your data rather than a scripted demo. A useful set for a private club: a weekend tee time lottery; a dining charge and a pro shop sale that land on the member's statement the same day; a membership sold online through a signed agreement and first payment; and a month-end close with the general ledger.

Ask for a written quote by module, including implementation, data migration, hardware, payment processing, support level and contract length. Cobalt does not publish prices, and none of the eight alternatives on this page publishes full club-management pricing, so written quotes on the same scope are the only way to compare like for like.

Finally, weigh the operating model. Decide whether you want software your team runs or a platform run for you, as Ardn runs Club Steward, before comparing feature lists.

Cobalt alternatives: frequently asked questions

What are the best Cobalt club software alternatives?

For private and country clubs that want another all-in-one suite with native accounting, the closest alternatives on this page are Clubspot, Northstar, Jonas Club Software and Clubessential. For public, semi-private and resort golf, Club Caddie, Lightspeed Golf and foreUP are built around the tee sheet and POS. Club Steward by Ardn (our own platform) is built for multi-club operators that want membership sales, e-signed contracts and one member record across clubs.

Who is Cobalt Software built for?

In its own words, Cobalt is "Club Management Software for Country Clubs & Private Clubs", and it says it has been "working with private clubs since 2016". Its golf tools are described as "built alongside PGA professionals", and its suite covers accounting, membership, dining, retail, golf, courts, lessons, spa and fitness, events, overnight rooms, payroll and HR.

How much does Cobalt cost compared with the alternatives?

Cobalt does not publish prices; its site asks you to request a demo. Clubspot publishes payment rates and pay-as-you-go platform fees and quotes the full stack, Lightspeed Golf publishes its terms (quote-based, no long-term contract), and Northstar describes modular pricing. Ardn does not publish Club Steward pricing; ask for a quote by module and by club.

Does Cobalt include accounting and payroll, and which alternatives do too?

Yes. Cobalt CORE includes accounts payable, accounts receivable, a general ledger, payroll and HR & recruiting. Clubspot, Jonas Club Software, Clubessential and Northstar describe native club accounting on their own sites, and Club Steward's Accounting Suite add-on includes a general ledger, payables and receivables per club or consolidated, with HR as a separate add-on module. Club Caddie, foreUP and Lightspeed Golf describe accounting through integrations.

Which Cobalt alternatives support multiple clubs?

On their own sites: Northstar supports multi-club, multi-course and multi-property organizations; Club Caddie offers single sign-on across a portfolio and memberships spanning facilities and regions; Lightspeed Golf and foreUP describe multi-course reporting; and Club Steward keeps one member record across every club with reports scoped by region. Cobalt and Clubspot describe multi-course support; multi-club portfolio management is not stated on the pages we reviewed.

Is Club Steward a neutral entry on this page?

No. Club Steward is Ardn's own golf and country club platform, and it is labelled as ours wherever it appears. Its facts come from the Club Steward product and features pages, and every competitor fact comes from that competitor's own website, linked in a Source note.
