Lightspeed Golf, formerly Chronogolf (its pricing page is titled "Chronogolf is now Lightspeed"), describes itself as "The complete solution for any golf facility. Tee sheet, POS, marketing, automation, reporting and more". Per lightspeedhq.com, checked October 22, 2026, "Lightspeed works with over 2,000 of the world's best golf courses", and its platform is "Purpose-built for public and semi-private courses", with dedicated pages for multi-course operators and private clubs.
Lightspeed Golf's strengths are the tee sheet, retail and restaurant point of sale, integrated payments and reporting across courses, so golf operators who search for Lightspeed Golf alternatives are usually checking one requirement rather than replacing everything. The most common: a course comparing tee sheet and POS platforms at renewal; a private or country club that wants native club accounting and the tee sheet from the same vendor; and a multi-club operator that wants membership sales, e-signed agreements and benefits that follow the member across clubs. This page compares seven platforms on those points, with every fact linked to the vendor's own site.
How this page was researched. Every vendor fact was read from that vendor's own website in October 2026 and is linked in a Source note. Where a vendor's pages don't say something, we say so rather than guess. Club Steward is Ardn's own platform, so it is labelled as ours wherever it appears. No ratings or review counts are quoted.
Lightspeed Golf at a glance: the baseline
Before comparing alternatives, here is what Lightspeed Golf says about itself on its own website, in its own words. These are the capabilities an alternative has to match or deliberately trade away.
- Who it is for: "golf course operators, general managers, golf directors, head professionals, kitchen managers, as well as their staff"; the golf FAQ says it is "ideal for high-volume public and semi-private golf courses with complex operations". Dedicated pages cover multi-course operators, private clubs, resorts and municipal courses.
- Tee sheet: "cloud-based", supporting "9 to 54 holes", custom player types with their own rules, pricing and restrictions, "shotguns, crossovers and front/back nines", pace-of-play tracking, tournaments and recurring leagues, bookings "24/7 from your website, Google and mobile app", and Lightspeed On Deck, which emails golfers waiting on standby when a tee time opens. Multi-course operators can "toggle between multiple tee sheets".
- Point of sale: golf retail POS and food and beverage POS with "fully-integrated payments, inventory, accounting and reporting", an "iPad based restaurant POS", self-service kiosks, connections to food delivery apps, and inventory across locations "with one SKU for the same product".
- Private clubs: a member management module "that centralizes house account charges, billing, payments and member data"; members "check online statements, review subscriptions and set up auto-payments"; house accounts can "automatically settle on a fixed date every month"; Family Accounts put several house accounts under one primary account. For private-club tee sheets and scheduling, Lightspeed "integrates directly with Whoosh".
- Multi-course: "multi-site memberships", packages "redeemed at any of your courses", one bill per family, data synced "from all of your locations with your accounting software", and Business Intelligence on "all your courses or just a specific one". The multi-course page mentions "hundreds of reports"; the reporting page says "over 100 reports".
- Payments: Lightspeed Payments quotes "2.6% + 10¢ per transaction" in person and "2.6% + 30¢" card-not-present, adding "we offer competitive rates" tailored per business; Apple Pay and Google Pay are accepted; funds typically arrive "within two business days"; and Lightspeed hardware "is sold separately" (existing terminals cannot be reused).
- AI, marketing, integrations and waivers: an "AI booking concierge" and page builders; "dynamic pricing" among its sales and marketing tools, and "connecting to the largest tee time marketplace" on the multi-course page; an "open API and partner ecosystem" covering accounting, property management, marketing, loyalty and tournament software; and digital waivers through the third-party eGolf Waiver integration, which sends waivers when a tee time is booked and shows completion on the tee sheet.
- Pricing and terms: quote-based ("Get your free personalized quote"), with "No Long-Term Contract". "Lightspeed is a pay-as-you-go service. You can cancel at any time." "There are no start up costs since Lightspeed is 100% cloud based", and a trade or hybrid option is offered for every plan. Support is described as "24/7 in-house support by phone or live chat".

Why clubs look at Lightspeed Golf alternatives
Lightspeed Golf is a broad golf POS and tee sheet platform, and most operators who evaluate alternatives are checking a specific requirement rather than looking for something smaller. The reasons that come up most often:
- One vendor for the private-club tee sheet: For private clubs, Lightspeed pairs its member billing and POS with Whoosh's tee sheet and scheduling tools through an integration. Clubs that want the tee sheet, member billing and POS from a single vendor often compare Jonas Club Software, Clubessential, Northstar or Club Steward, which each describe their own tee sheet.
- Native club accounting: Lightspeed describes integrated accounting tools and syncing data from all locations with your accounting software. Private and country clubs that want accounts payable, a general ledger and bank reconciliation inside the club system tend to shortlist Jonas, Clubessential, Northstar or Club Steward, which describe native accounting on their own sites.
- Membership sales and e-signed agreements: Lightspeed's waivers run through the eGolf Waiver integration. A membership sales pipeline and e-signature of a membership agreement are not stated on the Lightspeed Golf pages we reviewed. Clubs that sell memberships with a signed contract often want both inside the system that bills the member.
- Payment processing choices: Lightspeed publishes its own payments rates and says existing terminals cannot be reused with Lightspeed Payments. Operators with an existing processor agreement or hardware often compare how each alternative handles payments before switching.
- Benefits that follow the member across clubs: Lightspeed offers multi-site memberships and packages redeemable at any course. Operators with several private or semi-private clubs sometimes also want quantified benefits (rounds, guest passes, dining discounts) with caps per club or per network, drawn down automatically at whichever club the member plays, and reports scoped by region.

Each Lightspeed Golf alternative in detail
1. Club Steward by ArdnArdn's own platform
Ardn's own platform for multi-club golf and country club operators.
- Core modules are Membership Sales (shared lead pool with SLA escalation, pipeline by stage, tour board, e-signed contracts) and the Members App (a per-club installable app in the club's own brand, with a member card ready for Apple and Google Wallet).
- Add-on modules: Website & Marketing, HR, Tee-Times, Events & Catering, Point of Sale, e-Commerce, Subscription Billing & Dues, Member Service with Chatbot and an Accounting Suite. Property Management is listed as coming soon.
- Every club gets its own branded website with live prices from the back office and a six-step online join: plan, household, dues and add-ons, sign, autopay, pay. A waitlist replaces Join when a plan reaches its cap.
- Benefits are quantified (rounds, guest passes, dining discounts, room hours), reset monthly, yearly or on the anniversary, can be capped per club or per network of clubs, and booking a tee time draws down the allowance the member saw while booking.
- Dues run on autopay by card or US bank account (ACH), with a prorated first period, failed-payment retries that never charge twice, statements with finance charges and food and beverage minimums.
- Club-level isolation is enforced in the database with row-level security on every table, with more than 550 permissions granted per role and per club, field history, an audit log and a 30-day recycle bin.

Best for: Portfolios that want membership sales, e-signed contracts, one member record across clubs and region-level reporting on one platform, run as a managed service.
Pricing as published: Not published. Built and run by Ardn as a managed service; ask for a quote by module and by club.

Lightspeed Golf vs Club Steward: where each one fits
Club Steward is Ardn's own platform, so read this section as the vendor's view, checked against both products' own pages. Lightspeed Golf's own pages put the tee sheet, the register and payments at the centre: a cloud tee sheet for 9 to 54 holes, retail and iPad restaurant POS, integrated payments with published rates, cross-course reporting, and no long-term contract. That is a strong fit for public, semi-private, resort and municipal operations, and for multi-course operators selling packages across courses.
Club Steward starts from the member and the portfolio. Its product pages describe a membership sales desk (a shared lead pool with SLA escalation, a pipeline by stage and a tour board), a six-step online join from each club's own website (plan, household, dues and add-ons, sign, autopay, pay), contracts with built-in e-signature where payment is blocked until the agreement is signed, and one member record across every club, with reports scoped automatically for corporate, regional VPs and GMs. Its own tee sheet, point of sale, dues billing and accounting are modules on the same record.
Lightspeed's pages also describe dynamic pricing, a connection to a tee time marketplace, loyalty integrations and its own payment terminals. Club Steward pairs card readers to each register (tap or insert) and has member loyalty points in the member wallet; ask us in the walkthrough how tee-time distribution and pricing would work for your courses.
- Tee sheet: Lightspeed describes 9 to 54 holes, shotguns and crossovers, pace of play, On Deck standby and bookings from Google. Club Steward describes rate grids (peak, off-peak, guest, twilight, member and public), booking windows by tier, a waitlist, standing tee times, a weekend lottery, starter, ranger and bag-room screens with pace of play, and rain checks and no-show rules applied automatically.
- Point of sale: Lightspeed describes retail and iPad restaurant POS, kiosks and multi-location inventory. Club Steward describes a register for every outlet with card, cash and member-account payments, kitchen and bar screens with course hold-and-fire, gift cards, close-out with cash counts, and dining that keeps selling offline on cash and member account.
- Member billing: Lightspeed describes house accounts that settle on a fixed date, Family Accounts and auto-payments by card or ACH. Club Steward describes autopay by card or US bank account (ACH), a prorated first period, failed-payment retries that never charge twice, and statements with finance charges and food and beverage minimums.
- Accounting: Lightspeed syncs to your accounting software. Club Steward's Accounting Suite add-on describes a general ledger, payables and receivables per club or consolidated, bank reconciliation, budgets and period close.
- Operating model: Lightspeed describes 24/7 in-house support. Club Steward is run for you by Ardn as a managed service, with a US-based team and a 4-hour response SLA.
Switching from Lightspeed Golf: what to plan for
Lightspeed's no-long-term-contract terms make the exit itself simple: per its pricing page, "If you cancel, you'll be billed for the current month, but you won't be billed again." The real work is the data and the hardware, and the checklist below applies to every alternative on this page.
Start by asking Lightspeed how an export of customers, members, house account balances, packages, gift cards and sales history is delivered, and in what format. Then ask each alternative what it imports, and which history stays reportable rather than archived.
- Hardware: Lightspeed hardware is sold separately and Lightspeed Payments requires its own certified terminals. List every terminal, iPad and printer you use and ask each alternative which of them it supports, so the hardware budget is in the quote.
- House accounts and packages: list open house account balances, family accounts, multi-site memberships and packages redeemable across courses, and confirm the new platform can carry each one or plan a transition period.
- Private-club tee sheet: if you use Whoosh through Lightspeed, decide whether the tee sheet moves too. Jonas, Clubessential, Northstar and Club Steward each describe their own tee sheet.
- Accounting: if Lightspeed syncs to your accounting software today, decide whether you keep that ledger (foreUP and Club Caddie also describe accounting integrations) or move to a native club general ledger (Jonas, Clubessential, Northstar or Club Steward's Accounting Suite).
- Phasing and websites: for several courses, ask whether one course can go live while the others stay on Lightspeed. Club Steward turns modules on per club, and it sets up permanent redirects from each club's old web addresses so existing rankings carry over.
How to run a fair Lightspeed Golf alternatives evaluation
Shortlist three platforms, including Lightspeed Golf itself if you are reviewing, and ask each vendor to demonstrate the same scenarios on your data. A useful set: a Saturday tee sheet with a shotgun and public play side by side; a standby golfer filling a cancelled time; a restaurant tab and a pro-shop sale charged to a family house account that settles at month end; a membership sold online through a signed agreement and first payment; and a month-end report by course and department.
Ask for a written quote by module and by course, including implementation, data migration, hardware, payment processing rates, support level and contract terms. Lightspeed publishes its contract terms and its standard payments rates but not its software pricing, and none of the seven alternatives on this page publishes full pricing, so written quotes on the same scope are the only way to compare like for like.
Finally, decide on the operating model before comparing feature lists: software your own team runs, with vendor support, or a platform run for you as a managed service, which is how Ardn runs Club Steward.

Which Lightspeed Golf alternatives are better for private clubs?
Lightspeed serves private clubs through its member management module plus Whoosh's tee sheet and scheduling tools. Jonas Club Software, Clubessential and Northstar are private-club suites that describe their own tee sheet, native accounting and a member app on their own sites. Club Steward by Ardn (our own platform) adds membership sales, e-signed contracts and quantified benefits shared across clubs, for operators with several clubs.
Which Lightspeed Golf alternatives include e-signature for membership agreements?
On the pages we reviewed: Club Steward by Ardn includes e-signed contracts inside the online join and the in-person tablet checkout, with payment blocked until the agreement is signed. Club Automation describes digital contracts and waivers linked to the member's profile. Club Caddie offers a digital cart waiver. Lightspeed Golf itself offers waivers through the third-party eGolf Waiver integration. The foreUP, Jonas, Clubessential and Northstar pages we reviewed do not describe membership e-signature.
Is Club Steward a neutral entry on this page?
No. Club Steward is Ardn's own golf and country club platform, and it is labelled as ours wherever it appears. Its facts come from the Club Steward product and features pages, and every competitor fact comes from that competitor's own website, linked in a Source note.
